Pulisic Delivers the Derby Winner as Milan Edge Inter 1-0 — Maignan’s Heroics Seal the Points
Christian Pulisic was the match-winner in a tight Milan Derby, finishing a rebound in the second half to lift AC Milan past their rivals 1-0. Inter had controlled much of the early play, forcing Mike Maignan into several big saves on Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez.
But the moment that changed everything came in the 54th minute. Alexis Saelemaekers’ low strike was pushed away by Yann Sommer, only for Pulisic to react quickest and tap in from close range — a classic poacher’s finish from the USMNT star.
Inter pushed hard for an equalizer and earned a penalty, but Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s effort was brilliantly denied by Maignan, who also cleared the rebound. The French keeper added another stop late on to keep Milan ahead.
The win moves Milan up to second in Serie A, while Inter slide to fourth.
For Pulisic, it’s another decisive moment shortly after returning from injury — and another reminder of how important “Captain America” has become in Milan’s attack.

Captain America vibes all over that moment.

No argument from me — absolute facts.
↳ MetroCourtShift5
Pretty much the LeBron of soccer at this point.
↳ JetstreamD95
Bro genuinely can’t stand Inter lol.
↳ CinderTrailEcho
Same energy here.
↳ ShadowHarbor_30
Honestly, that’s exactly how it should be.
↳ RedwoodRidge23
He just shows up in the perfect spot every single time — guy’s got ridiculous scoring instincts.
↳ FrostPeak_Owen
He’s always had that poacher DNA. Playing alongside Giroud for years definitely sharpened it even more.
↳ YarnWeaver_16
Crazy talented, but his biggest weapon is that nose for rebounds.
He’s already lurking in the six before the shot even leaves the foot.
↳ CashOrbit_77
The second he saw that shot winding up, he charged straight toward goal looking for scraps — elite football IQ.
BlazeRift_Hangover
Pulisic scoring has become so routine that his goals don’t even crack 1k upvotes or hit the top of the subreddit anymore.
The “LeBron of soccer” version of him has officially arrived.

Back then you could spot greatness by the mountain of awards he racked up — they basically nerfed the whole thing when they removed half of them.

George Weah!!!
↳ MolassesQuickshot
Still wild that Tim Weah was suiting up for the US while his dad was literally running Liberia as president.

Akanji was awful there — reacted way too late and ended up flat-footed while Pulisic blew right past him.
↳ SnapshotPaparazzi
That one’s on Sommer for sure.
↳ HoopsAndHalftimesGOAT
Sommer wasn’t great either, but you just can’t freeze like that. He slowed down after the shot, which made it way too easy for Pulisic to beat him.
↳ ChargeLine4528
Feels like he completely forgot he was supposed to be tracking Pulisic in the first place.

Wild how Akanji talked big before kickoff and then basically took a nap while marking his man.
↳ RhineValleyAnt
Puli and Akanji were teammates at Dortmund.
He really should’ve known better.
↳ ScreenShiftNova
What did he even say lol?
↳ KratosField61
He just said he hoped he could stop Leão. Nothing dramatic — fans just blew it up like always.
↳ DubsifyDrift
When they asked him how he planned to stop Leão, he said “you’ll see tonight.”
↳ GosuTrail_07
To be fair… nobody asked him about Pulisic though lol.
GlacierPost_Sommer
Sommer might really be past it at this point.
↳ LogicShift3089
Akanji deserves way more of the blame on that play.
↳ OpenRange_Ideas
I’m pretty sure the shot wasn’t even heading on target. Sommer pushed it right into open space and Puli just beat his man to it — maybe Sommer expected Akanji to clean it up first.
Honestly, Inter messed up that entire sequence: bad goal-kick shape, losing the third ball, Sommer overreacting, not pushing the save wide, and then Akanji getting outrun by Puli.
That’s a whole chain of mistakes leading to Milan’s only goal.
